If you’ve watched the movie Forest Gump you will certainly be familiar with the title of this blog post. On Saturday 30 September 2017, the Goodwood Harriers a running club I am a member of, but am yet to participate in a race - #hideshandsinface, hosted its inaugural race at the Fort iKapa Military base in Goodwood.
1270 athletes supported the club and Commanding Officer of the base (Lt-Col Pierce) signaled the start of the race by firing a canon. Special moments of the day that stand out for me, is the first runner home (Adrian Wildschutt) who finished the 10km race in 30 minutes. Simply awesome and inspiring! The second highlight was our very own junior (Laila Abouzaid) who put our club on the podium. Well done Laila! Lastly the Goodwood Harriers as a team ran out to meet the last male runner home (Arthur Drake an octogenarian…..ie. age group 8o to 89) and cheered him to the finish line as well as the last female runner Sadiqa Parker who was overwhelmed by the support of the club members..
Most athletes are known for their sportsmanship and this day was no different – camaraderie, support and encouragement was evident. I think happy endorphins has something to do with it. :-)
Did I even mention the proposal??? You'll have to attend the next race - it has drama, action and romance. ;-)
Well done Goodwood Harriers Running Club on your 10km inaugural race.
